Working overseas has become the final choice to many Filipinos who feel that they have more opportunities for financial advancement outside the country. While there are success stories, there are those which tell about desperation and frustration. Ignorance is being blamed as the common culprit; but in all honesty, why prefer to be ignorant when you can be wise? Those who get victimized usually have no idea how overseas employment can take place. They are just trusting that money paid will yield a job abroad and an airline ticket will prove it. They have no idea at all what the steps are or what a visa means. They just commonly ask for how much do they have to pay and when can they go. So, it is always better to know the relevance of visa or entry permit, sponsorships and immigration documents.
After looking for a job opening and finding one that meets your expectations and whose applications requirements befits you, you have to undergo certain exams and interviews to be conducted by your employer or authorized personnel. If you are considered as a suitable candidate for the job, your prospective employer will have to release a written job offer and proof that you are qualified. When you apply anywhere in the world, you will need a work visa or an entry permit to work. Without that, you become an illegal alien and you can get deported.
After your visa is released, you shall be required to undergo medical examination to guarantee that you are fit to work abroad, and likewise, a thorough criminal background check. When you pass those requirements, that is the only time when you or your agency can procure a ticket towards your country of destination.
Anyone who is considering working overseas should understand all the requirements and personally see to it that all his documents are legal and valid. For example, if you have no NSO certificate of birth because you were not registered by your parents since you were born, you are not to believe recruiters who say that they can have one processed for you immediately. Neither can you get a passport until you become registered as a citizen of your country of birth. Neither can you be issued a visa if you have no passport at all. Be wary of recruiters who will promise to deliver your documents when you yourself don’t have those pertinent documents, Be sharp; Be wary. If you get fooled, no one is liable except you.
